We are considering attending the following events. However, we are not committed to attending until we are sure we have sufficient crew to make it viable.
Melton Mowbray (confirmed) do a nice event in the park on 8th to 9th May, and we have a spot by the river that runs alongside the park, so we can run the pump as much as we like, with an unlimited supply of water! See http://1940smeltonmowbray.co.uk/
We have been invited to the Spirit of Wartime Sherwood at Thoresby Hall, on 15th and 16th May, but that makes three consecutive weekends, which is a lot of pressure.
We will be at the Great Central Railway (confirmed) for their 1940s weekend on 21st to 23rd May. (Announced on their Official Instagram page, instagram.com/p/DeWSZhjDBOp/ ) In past years, we have run a full-scale Air Raid Scenario there, but this time we plan something simpler (as the air raid is a lot of hard work). Probably a pumping exercise/training drill using water from the 500 gallon mobile dam.
We are considering another new event for us, Clipstone at War over the weekend of 17th to 18th July, as there is a possibility of rescuing our ‘Dead Fred’ dummy from a winding house roof as a demonstration using the Turntable Ladder.
We will probably take the Mobile Canteen to support the National Emergency Services Museum at Norfolk Park, Sheffield, on August Bank Holiday Monday.
Last year we did a really successful event at Claymills Pumping Station in Burton-on-Trent using the Turntable Ladder to rescue a casualty from a 4th story window. We could go back there again 25th – 26th September, depending on crew availability, and may do a small-scale air raid with the Works Fire Brigade providing the first response.
