Over the last few years, a crack has appeared across the top of the cylinder head, and it wept a little water when it was running. Clearly not good, and eventually something needed to be done.
A couple of weeks ago, Nick Cambray (an old university friend who was visiting), and I removed the head – very easy on a side-valve engine as there is no timing to worry about – and took it to Surelock in Oakham. Although they are rather pricey, the do a really good job, as the photos show. Anyway, a bit of paint, then off for a skim, and it all goes back together.
While I was at it, I drained the oil, and shook out the limescale flakes that were in the head – they came out about the size of 50p coins!
