Castle Bytham, just off the A1, are having the 1940s as the theme for their summer fair, and we have been invited to take part. Apparently they are quite keen, but I think a full-blown air raid would blow their socks off!
Although the big vehicles are great fun, there are no tall buildings in the village, which makes the 50′ escape and the 60′ turntable ladder a bit superfluous. Also, they are the thirstiest 🙂
I will get in touch with Guarderobe, and see what we can hatch up together. I will be a bit vague about vehicles for now – it depends what we have ready, and crew for. I would like to home that the Mobile Canteen towed behind the Brough Superior car will be ready, together with a K2 and trailer pump, with an Emergency Water Supply we set up earlier. (There is a village pond on Water Lane – I wonder if they would miss a bit?)
Yes, there could be an air raid – a single stray bomber offloading its bombs over anything it sees. And a small village fire brigade with a van and a pump would be quite appropriate.
Sound effects and smoke, ARP wardens and Home Guard, and a few casualties would complete the picture.
Just a single day, Saturday 23rd June.
